On Saturday, July 29, 2000, Alvin and I got married in a beautiful little chapel down in Myrtle Beach, SC! We were a little dubious at first because, well, it was a wedding chapel instead of a regular church. It turned out to be a wonderful way to do our wedding. One of the best things about it was that we were able to get married in one of our favorite vacation spots, and most of the arrangements were taken care of by the chapel. The chapel took care of all the decorating for the wedding. They even provided a photographer who really did a wonderful job. We did add some of our own personal touches though. We used our own music, featuring mostly acoustic guitar and celtic instrumentals, which we put on a CD, and made a cover, liner and CD label that matched our invitations and wedding programs (inside).
My maid of honor and I carried beautiful bouquets my sister made from peach silk roses. (She also made the matching peach roses that were pinned in my hair) We also used our own unity candles which had a "bee" motif, in keeping with my parents' childhood nickname for me "Jenny B". We used ivory bees wax candles with tiny silver bumblebee earrings set in them for decoration. The earrings were later given to our female guests as thank you presents. The way we did it all took a lot of stress out of the planning and preparation, and it really turned out to be a beautiful ceremony!
After the ceremony, we all changed clothes and went out to eat together with our friends and family. After dinner, our families retired to their hotel rooms and we went miniature golfing and hung out with our friends for the evening. Since there was no time to undo my wedding hair (there was just way too much hairspray and teasing involved) I ended up doing dinner and putt-putt in jean shorts, a t-shirt and an up-do (at least I took the roses out of it first). I must have been quite a sight!
Our wonderful honeymoon was in nearby historic Georgetown, SC. A week later we headed back home to settle in to married life. A couple weeks later, we held a much larger reception, at Massanutten Resort, for all our friends and family, especially those who could not make it down for the ceremony. We really loved the way everything turned out! We were able to wear our wedding finery one more time and we were also able to show the video of our ceremony to all our guests. The best part is that because it was after the honeymoon, we were so much more relaxed and able just to hang out with all of our friends and family.
Here are some pics from the ceremony and mini-reception afterwards.
